EPHRAIM'S SONG
Ephraim's Song: An Urban Musical featuring the music of CITY HIGH. New York City is the cold backdrop to Ephraim's Song, a modern day allegory on the age old plight of strong willed youth who have given up on direction and live their life as slaves to whatever whim the moment contains. Proceeds from the performances will benefit the National Foster Care Fund. [CLICK HERE TO VISIT THE OFFICIAL SITE]
MEET THE CHILDREN
"Meet the Children" Photo Kit: Target, Kodak, the Minnesota Department of Human Services and AdoptUSKids have partnered to put together a kit that will make it simple to get a photo and brief description of every child waiting to be adopted in the United States posted on both the state and national adoption websites. The purpose of the kid is to make the process uncomplicated and effortless for Social Workers, and in return, help ensure that every whild who is waiting to be adopted is represented. The "Meet the Children" photo kit will be launched and tested in Minnesota before going nationwide. [CLICK HERE TO VIEW A LETTER FROM BRUCE WILLIS, SENT TO THE MINNESOTA SOCIAL WORKERS]
ART START
Art-Start was founded in 1991 to bring the arts to children in New York City homeless shelters. In 1999, Art-Start formed the Hip Hop Project recognizing the passion their kids have for hip-hop music and culture. This program gets the students together with professions in the music industry who help them write and produce their own collective album. Peer-Mentoring is fostered through workshops, performances and community service. The project recognizes that hip-hop is much more than beats, rhymes and a means to make money. It is one of the few artistic outlets for young people who are continually confronted with violence, the threat of addiction and the power of gangs. The Hip-Hop Project gives its kids the chance to put words to their daily lives that tell their stories and validate their struggles. Learn more by visiting art-start.org
COUNTRY SCHOOL
Present enrollment averages 250 students, with students starting as early as two-and-a-half. Families come from neighborhoods across the Valley, Hollywood, and the Westside. As envisioned by the Ellises, our Board of Trustees and school administrators are committed to creating a student body which represents the rich cultural diversity of Los Angeles. After decades of change and growth, The Country School still reflects the ideals of its remarkable founders, offering a dynamic academic program in an environment of trust and support. As Rafe Ellis wrote: "We want the children to feel that the school belongs to them." This strong concept of 'self' is the cornerstone of our philosophy, and we help develop it through social interaction and learning situations appropriate to each child. Our approach is progressive, or experiential; that is, we believe a child's hands-on experience of a subject is the key to opening young minds and hearts. Simply put: students at The Country School are given the tools they need for a successful journey through education. Learn more by visiting country-school.org/
